Western North Texas

Today is characterised by high CAPE (>3500 J/kg) and a continuation of the northwest flow regime that has plagued the plains for almost two weeks. We hope that an isolated supercell might develop in advance of organised severe thunderstorm clusters, anticipated to dominate later in the day.

We head west of Plainview (Tx) as lightning active high-based storms develop over the high plains. We stick with these storms as they move into west Texas. As the storms move east into deeper moisture, a stunning shelf cloud develops. A powerful, more isolated storm fires up over Wichita Falls and produces baseball hail.

Further west, a now powerful linear MCS dominates the entire western sky.
